What is Reiki?

Reiki, pronounced ray-kee, is a Japanese word which means Universal Life Energy. Coming from two words, Rei and ki. Rei can be interpreted to mean universal while ki is life energy.

Reiki is considered a hands-on healing technique, completely non-invasive. A Reiki treatment is a way of balancing your life energy. While the client is fully clothed and lying comfortably on a massage table or sitting in a chair, the Reiki practitioner will offer Reiki to the client through touch. The practitioners' hands are placed on or near the clients' body in various hand positions.

This treatment is very relaxing, some clients even fall asleep. Reiki helps to maintain the good health of the client, while it also helps to ease tension, reduce stress and support the body to facilitate healing on all levels, working simultaneously on mind, body and spirit.

Reiki is completely safe and gentle, it simply cannot do harm, as such it may be used with traditional medical treatment, but is never meant to replace medical treatment. Reiki can be safely used on pets; in fact most animals relish the opportunity to receive Reiki. Reiki flows through the practitioner as pure balanced energy and always seeks the highest good of the receiver.

While considered a spiritual practice, no specific religion or belief is required for Reiki to work. In fact the recipient does not even need to believe in Reiki for it to be effective.
