Just for Today…

Many years ago I was introduced to Reiki. This beautiful energy work changed my life in many ways.

Something very profound, which has stayed with me and been very helpful to me over the years was learning about the Reiki Precepts written by Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of this healing system. These precepts, or ideals developed by Dr. Usui are simple. Having said that, they are profound in their beautiful simplicity.

When a heart is broken, experiencing grief of any sort, having something to turn to is very helpful. And so I want to share these ideals with you and encourage you to incorporate into your life as much as feels right for you.

Reiki Ideals for Daily Living

Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.

For me, keeping these ideals in mind helps me to focus on what feels right. To remember that I only need to focus on this moment right now. One day at a time, one hour at a time. Indeed, one breath at a time – is enough. You can do this. You are not alone. We are walking this path, through grief and into healing, together.

I wish you a day of gentle healing and peaceful moment.

Sandy

Reiki for Self-Care

What do you do to take care of yourself? You may exercise, eat right, meditate or a variety of other activities which offers relaxation and the opportunity to ‘unwind’.  May I suggest that you consider adding Reiki to your daily practice?

Reiki, defined as Universal Life Energy, is an excellent addition to your daily routine. When I teach Reiki I always encourage my students to give themselves Reiki every day. Reiki is a gentle, hands-on technique which offers balancing of your life energy. You don’t need any special equipment or tools to do Reiki. Simply your time and intention. It doesn’t get much better than that!

When you give yourself Reiki you learn to become more aware of your own energy, when you are out of balance and the subtle shifts as you come back into balance. Reiki helps you on all levels, the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. And here’s another wonderful detail, you don’t need to know where the imbalance is or on which level you need to heal. Because Reiki is channeled through you from our Higher Power, it goes where it’s most needed for your highest good.

You may want to spend an hour or more giving yourself Reiki everyday, or you may only spend a few moments with Reiki. What sort of time do you want to give to yourself? It’s all up to you and it’s always going to work for your benefit. Personally, I often give myself Reiki while I relax in the evening, even while I’m watching television or reading a book.

Once you’ve been attuned to Reiki, by taking a Reiki class, you will discover that it’s available to you at any time, simply hold the intention that Reiki flow and the energy flow begins. Ahhh, love that!

As always, I encourage you to take excellent care of yourself. I’d also like to suggest that you consider adding Reiki to your daily routine. It’s a lovely addition and an excellent method of self-care.

Job Loss Means New Beginning

We hear about it on the news every day, people are losing their jobs. At the moment it’s a reality in America and folks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin are not exempt.

Mike went to work on Thursday, to a job that he liked. By the time he left at 3pm, he had joined the ranks of the unemployed. I had the opportunity to talk with him in depth a few days later. The holistic life coach in me could not help but be impressed with his point of view. Mike told me that this will be a good thing in the long run. He liked his job and made pretty good money. However, he knew that as long as that job was there, he would probably not seriously look at other options. Mike is young, not quite 22 years old and very aware that the world has quite a lot to offer him. He is taking this opportunity to reflect a bit, think about where he wants to live, what makes him happy and where he can imagine himself in the future.

Mike’s considering going back to school, but that really does not hold a lot of appeal for him. He is, however, considering a wide range of opportunities including the possibility of going into business for himself. We chatted about the jobs that he is applying for and the range is amazing.

Naturally, since I’m a life coach and his mom, it was important for me to hear a bit about his plan. Mike is putting together an honest and thorough resume. He’s decided to grow his hair a bit and to shave off the thing that’s been hanging from his chin for so long. He’s asking his eldest brother about the most appropriate way to dress to put in applications and to go to job interviews. He’s also re-learning about the appropriate follow up to job interviews, thank you cards, phone calls, etc.

In short, Mike is optimistic that life is changing in a positive, exciting way for him. He told me that this experience is teaching him some very important lessons and that he looks forward to the next few months. He knows he has options that many do not. His parents have offered to let him move back home and they would welcome him, but that’s something he would prefer to avoid. Still, the reassurance of knowing he has that option removes much of his stress.

For my part, I support and applaud Mike. I will continue to offer him Reiki to keep him stress-free. As a holistic life coach, I will continue to chat with him about the choices he is making, I will encourage him to move in the direction that feels right to him, in short, to follow his gut which of course means to follow and discover his bliss. Mike is taking positive action steps to bring about the future that he desires and I have no doubt that all will unfold in an amazing way for him.

I wish Mike and all of the unemployed in Milwaukee and all of America a week of personal and professional growth, calm and optimism as their future unfolds before them.

Reiki Circle

Recently I met an amazing woman. Her name is Sally K. O’Brien and she offers her talents in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a life coach and a Reiki master, among other things.

Prior to our meeting I knew we would have some things in common, as I am also a holistic life coach and Reiki practitioner. What I had no way of knowing before our meeting, was how much I would like this woman and find that I had the desire to know more about her and to work with her. She is warm and friendly and very direct, all qualities that I value and appreciate. Most of all, she believes in giving back and that’s where things got really interesting.

It seems that some time ago Sally had read about Reiki circles in a magazine that was published in 2005. These Reiki circles had been developed for the purpose of offering Reiki to special needs children, their families and caregivers. This touched Sally very deeply and she had kept the information for a model that she knew she herself would someday develop.

This is really a very simple, powerful gathering. Those who choose to receive Reiki have a seat in the center of the room. Those offering Reiki either stand or sit in a circle surrounding the receivers. For approximately fifteen minutes, Reiki is offered to those who are in attendance.

When Sally shared this information with me we immediately agreed that it needs to happen in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the surrounding area. This was one week ago. We’ve met again since that first time and outlined a plan for making this happen, as I know it will.

So, now I’m calling on everyone I know and those that I hope to get to know for some assistance. In order to make this monthly gathering happen we need a few things.

1. Location – we need to have a place that everyone can meet
2. People! Who are these special needs children, how do we find them? Any contacts?
3. Publicity – let’s get the word out, internet, TV, radio, newspaper, magazines.
The more people find out about this, the more can be served.
4. Reiki practitioners of all levels. If you are in the area we would be honored if
you are able to join us in person for these events. If you are not able to attend
we would greatly appreciate and welcome distant Reiki.

As for me, once again, this brings me back to the most basic of all beliefs. The holistic life coach in me is grateful for the opportunity to give back, as I know I have received great blessings in my life and this will simply keep those blessings ‘in flow’ so to speak.

I feel sure that if the seed of this idea is planted, these circles will develop in many other places and serve many other groups. Personally, I feel drawn to develop this type of circle for our military, police and fire fighters, in short those who serve and protect us. However, it’s my hope that this idea is like the pebble thrown into the pond and that the ripples that are created become circles for those recovering from addictions, those who have been abused, the lonely, groups of people who would simply appreciate receiving Reiki, they need have no more in common that that.

I am asking you to keep us in mind this week as you go about your business. If you know of someone who might be able to assist, participate or help out in any way, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Wishing you a week filled with blessings and fabulous opportunities to share those blessings with those you care about.

Namaste,
Sandy

Balance

If you ever read my blog, you know that I’m a holistic life coach. Why? Because I strongly believe that we must find balance in our lives to move forward in a meaningful way. That means that what happens in my personal life affects my social life, my business life, etc. That’s the holistic point of view.

Living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin I am surrounded by people who do not accept change quickly or easily, and yes, I am one of them. We tend to be pretty conservative in that respect. We like to think about things, talk it over and look from all angles. If we see a value, we generally give it a whirl. Once we experience value, we embrace this change and are staunch supporters. This is, of course, a generalization; however, I’m a prime example of this behavior.

I first experienced Reiki at the prompting of my son, Jeff. There were a lot of issues going on in my life, leaving me feeling physically, mentally and emotionally stressed. He recommended a Reiki master in the Milwaukee area. If I say that it changed my life I would be offering an understatement. Reiki helped me to bring balance into my life. Very important to someone who has a holistic point of view. I did have the attitude that comes naturally to most of us from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I had a million questions and prior to the experience, I was not ready to wrap my arms around the experience. However, after my first Reiki session, I knew I had found something profound that would change my life.

Reiki has been a valuable tool for me ever since my first experience. Because of that, I have become a Reiki practitioner myself, pleased to offer Reiki to family and friends as would request it. Now I’ve decided to make Reiki available to my coaching clients as well. Actually, it simply makes sense. The Reiki experience has helped me to experience calm and balance. When I work with life coaching clients we are striving to find a way to move forward in a positive, balanced manner.

Once again, a citizen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin has found a new experience, approached it carefully and come to embrace it enthusiastically. Some of us in Milwaukee may be a bit slow to experience something new to us, but when we do, if it proves to be a beneficial experience, it becomes something we stand behind.

Look for my website to be updated in the next week or so. It is my pleasure to offer Reiki to life coaching clients, but I am also very pleased to offer it to those who would simply like to experience Reiki on its own. My life is very good and I would like to share as much of this wonder, peace, and serenity with others as possible.

I wish you a balanced and fabulous day.

Namaste,
Sandy

Live for Today

Do you have special things that you are saving to use on a special day?

When I got married I received crystal bowls, glasses, etc. I love glass and they were beautiful. However, my husband and I were not holding any formal dinners to use our beautiful crystal, we were much more likely to have casual backyard BBQ’s.

When our boys got to be the age of curiosity they wanted to know all about the pretty glass. Well, it occurred to me one day that it was to be used!! It had not been given to us to sit in a cabinet, but rather to be used and enjoyed. From that day forward, we made a huge salad a few times a week in one of the beautiful bowls. If there was dessert, pudding, Jell-O, ice cream, you name it; we served it in the pretty bowls or glasses. It made the boys feel so grown up and trusted and very special to use the beautiful glassware. And I loved seeing it used.

My point is that we all have special things‚ that we are saving for a special day. Why not make today your special day? Wear your favorite dress! Have that favorite wine, call those friends that you think about but never find the time to call. It’s tough not to feel wonderful when you are wearing your finery, talking to your favorite people and smiling all the time.

Every day is a wonderful gift. We don’t know if we will be here tomorrow. So, of course, make plans for your future, but be sure to live for today. Now is what is important!  Smile, relax and speak with love and hope and compassion. Enjoy the moment and you will find yourself going to bed tonight with a beautiful smile and a feeling of calm, joy and serenity.

I wish for you a fabulous day spent enjoying the now.

Namaste,
Sandy
